The Kelowna Speed Skating Club offers recreational / fitness and competitive speed skating for those aged 5+, adolescents, and adults. We can teach you how to skate and how to skate faster! Our skate rental service makes it easy to come and try speed skating, a sport in which Canada ranked among the world's best at the last winter Olympics.
We are members of the British Columbia Speed Skating Association, a branch of Speed Skating Canada. Our coaches are dedicated volunteers that are highly accredited and enthusiastic individuals passing their love of the sport to our skaters. Our goal is support them in developing athletes who will have a life long love of fitness and the sport while enjoying competitive success.
Our home ice is at the Capital News Centre and skaters train up to four days per week. Our season runs from September until March – new members are welcome at any time! Skaters practicing at least two days per week are encouraged to participate in meets in Kamloops, Vernon, the Lower Mainland, and of course, Kelowna.
For an organized sport, our fees are relatively low. Ice costs are funded by gaming funds, sponsors, fundraisers, and skater fees. Our other costs include mats, their repair, rental skates, sharpening costs, coach and officials education, and travel expenses among others. We appreciate all of the help we receive from our sponsors and the fundraising efforts of our members.
